October 2007
Dear Large Firm Roundtable Member,
We have heard several requests from the LFRT members for a course
that will help you develop better classes for your in-house training
programs, help you train your firm's trainers to be more effective,
and to give you tools for promoting on-the-job use of newly learned
skills. This course is the answer to those requests.
The Advanced Management Institute has created a new program
for us, featuring three of their top experts in professional
development, education, and employee engagement and retention.
In this new course, How to Design and Teach High-Impact
Training Programs, you'll have the opportunity
to work one-on-one with Joe Rei, Cheryl May and Leigh Branham.
High-Impact Training Programs offers you an intensive two-day
program that will teach you competency-based curriculum design,
adult learning and training skills, how to train your trainers
or help experienced trainers upgrade their abilities. They will
also show you how to help your managers support on-the-job use
of newly learned skills through coaching.
As always, the program features include:
- Curriculum designed for our industry and
for the large firms.
- Small class size to maximize attention to individuals.
- Group exercises and role-playing, to boost learning retention
and skill application.
- Participants interact with and learn
new perspectives from their peers.
Please call Yvonne Truby at our learning partner, the Advanced
Management Institute, 707-252-2054 if you have questions, or
to reserve spots in this beneficial and informative course.

PLEASE NOTE: Shared Training Program
courses are open to the employees of AIA-LFRT member firms

Participants of other courses have said:
"Having an instructor who's been in our shoes, in the
same profession and from a large firm, made the material relevant
and
accessible." ~ 2004 Scope Management Course
Graduate
"The content was extremely pertinent to my current position
and experience as a young PM. The examples were very relevant and
I appreciate the insight I gained from the seminar." ~ 2004
Scope Management Course Graduate
"I feel this class has provided me a new sense of both
how to approach leadership of others, as well as how to position
myself
in order to lead. In other words, the tools to manage both myself
and others!" ~ 2004 Project Leadership Graduate
"Using movies as learning aids made the lessons less abstract,
and made me want to evaluate the leadership I see in everyday
life, both good and bad, similar to how I'm always looking at
buildings
for new details." ~ 2004 Project Leadership
Graduate
"I think everything targeted on the agenda is very helpful
and useful in all applications. The material is well-delivered
and documented." ~ 2003 Scope Management Graduate
"I was disgusted with myself for having committed two
of my days off to training just before my daughter's wedding,
when my 'Honey Do This' list was a mile long - and I had a
big deadline! My frame of mind was not good. But I do not recall
ever having been fully engaged - and I mean every minute -
in any training session, not even a halfday. But there I was,
looking forward to getting back to Effective Negotiations again
the next morning. Great class! Thank you! I'd like to offer
it to my entire staff here at the District." (Note:
He did.) ~ Dave Requa, District Engineer, Contra Costa Water
District, CA
"The Effective Negotiations course
led by Steve Isaacs has been extremely valuable in the work of
my professional practice. In addition to his personal skills
at teaching what has been very valuable are his personal examples
and experiences which add reality to the sessions. I have made
sure that my entire professional staff has attended the course." ~ Joe
Covello, President,
The Covello Group
Winter 2008 Course: How to Design and Teach
High-Impact Training Programs
Format: Two-day
session
Who should attend? Anyone
responsible for learning and development, creating courses, training
trainers, or supporting in-firm coaching.
What is this seminar?
Could your in-house training programs have more impact? Do your
trainers need to improve their teaching skills? Do your managers
need help ensuring that new learning is actually used on the job?
This course offers learning that will help you improve your in-firm
training programs in three ways:
- Better teaching skills and methods for trainers
- Improved curriculum design and delivery tools
- Coaching tools for managers to boost on-the-job use of new
learning
Our professional development experts, Joe Rei, Cheryl May and “employer
of choice” specialist and author, Leigh Branham, will teach
you:
- how to design training programs that have a performance impact,
- ways to improve the programs you already have,
- how to train others to teach your courses effectively,
- coaching methods for managers to support on the job use of
new tools.
We'll use our considerable experience in Project Management training
as the focus for this course. Leigh Branham will use his recent
research in PM competencies to help you understand how to:
- identify the competencies your firm needs to have,
- relate those competencies to the firm's current capacity
and identify knowledge gaps,
- develop the capacity to fill those knowledge gaps through
training and coaching methods.
You will learn how to design training programs that have a performance
impact on your firm, how to improve the programs you already have,
how to support that learning through coaching on the job.
While the topic for this session is Project Management, this skill
set can be used to develop any training curriculum and prepare
trainers to teach any topic.
